WEEK 149: BE A PRO

REFLECTIONS (learnings and actions): Did you know that you can be a "Pro" 

That is right. You can be a "Pro" right now in any area of your life. 

It actually is easy as 1-2-3 and you can turn it on today.

Would you like to know how? (if not, you can stop reading now).

Now before we get into it, let's talk about a few "Pros" and find out what makes them, well "Pros."

First, Michael Jordan.

Considered one of the, if not the greatest NBA player of all time.

Everyone saw the drive, the motivation, the confidence, yet they did not see the habits which made MJ, MJ.

The player his teammates counted on with seconds on the clock to win the game. 

The player who fought through sickness to win a championship.

The player who lead the team to create a dynasty.

You might say it was his focus, his grit, his any number of other qualities, but a singular, simple thing made him a "Pro." 

This simple idea is something all high performers or "Pros" all do. 

Well what is it?

It the ability to show up, stick to your schedule, and complete the work...especially when you do not want to.

Tim Grover, MJ's personal trainer/coach, wrote a book called "Relentless" ( a must read to get you performing at a high level) where he wrote that he would always say "6 or 7?" after a game.

Meaning, what time are we meeting tomorrow morning? 

It did not matter if it was the first game of the season, or game 6 of the NBA finals. The next day MJ was going to show up, stick to his schedule, and complete the work.

And I am not meaning just showing up to sit around and do a few curls. 

I mean the 2-3 hours of grinding, pushing his body to the limits.

MJ said " I am not out there 3 hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat!"

Another set of "Pros" who understand and protect their ability to show up is Chris and Taylor of Traffic and Funnels. 

If you have not heard of them on FB then you have been living underneath a rock as these two business innovators have created one of the fastest growing businesses in the world.

Literally starting from 0 to over 750,000 dollars of revenue per month in a little over 3 years. 

Unheard of in the marketing space. 

They have said the #1 secret to life and business is "Your ability to show up"

You must guard it, protect it...even violently to ensure your success. 

BUT...

You know how it goes. 

Life gets in the way.

By life I mean an obstacle (perceived)...your partner, your kids, your job, your bills...

The endless excuses (did you see how all of them are external) which prevent you from showing up.

The thing is you do not have to show up. You live quite a comfortable life already.

You do not have to change a single thing, and you would be more than ok.

Yet, the easy decisions now ALWAYS end up as hard decisions later. 

For example, you make the easy choice to eat garbage food everyday until one day you arrive in a doctors chair where you are diagnosed with diabetes. 

Those easy choices you made in the past literally turn into painful days where you have to inject yourself with a needle and dquirt liquid underneath your skin everyday.

However...

It does not have to be this way.

There is another path and you can turn on that inner "Pro" today.

It does not matter if you are 25 or 75.

Want to achieve your greatest goals?

Want to perform like a "Pro?"

Simple...protect your ability to show up, stick to your schedule, and complete the work!

That is it!

Thinking too much of what others are thinking leads to a Lens of Lack (LOL) and uncomfortableness.

You empower yourself by confronting and taking things head on.

You drain yourself of power by AVOIDING.

Two amazing parents who took a chance on a Korean kid those 30 odd years ago. They have given me an opportunity I could have never imagined.

WEEK 148: INVEST IN YOU

REFLECTIONS (learnings and actions): Do you know what this is?

HINT: It is not into your 401k (retirement). It is not buying property (not first anyways).

Let me explain so you have the knowledge to make all of your other investments grow exponentially.

Now, understand the stock market can crash and does.

Great Depression. 2008...

Also, a house you buy can burn down, can be swept in a tornado, flood....

Now the greatest investment you can make is in YOU!

That is right YOU.

Investments in your personal development which will allow you to

[+] bring you clarity

[+] foster accurate thinking

[+] keep you accountable 

[+] ONE integral piece (keep reading)

Creates a belief you are worth it and you are the type of person who will make it. 

Because at end of the day it is YOU who takes the actions to generate what you want. 

NO one else. 

Here is the thing. In the future, the job you have security in now may become obsolete. 

The stocks which average 8% returns, start tanking.

The house you bought is falling apart.

You get the point. 

With the correct investments you are not dependent on external shifts. You are ok, as you know you have the tools to see the abundant opportunity around you and you will ADAPT and FIGURE it out.

Now I want to talk to you today about TWO factors around making wise investments into YOU.

First, the successful view things in terms of "investments" and "returns."

The point is, it is not how you are investing (cc, cash, etc) it is more about what you are investing into and if they are actually good investments. 

What is it?

What is the integral piece I mentioned above?

Good investments produce ACCELERATION.

Ben Johnson said "He who is taught only by himself has a fool for a master."

You must ask does this program, coach, resource help me accelerate me to get from where I am at, to where I desire to be?

Health, money, success, love...

If the answer is YES, then it is a good investment.

But even though you know it is a good investment, it is hard to make the decision.

You know the life changing ones where you wrestle and think out every possibility.

You ask "will this work out?" or "what happens if it does not?

This leads me to the second factor. 

It deals with how your brain is wired. 

Now we think once we make a conscious choice to improve ourselves everything else falls into place.  

Yet, it does not.

Why?

Well our brains are wired for self-preservation. Any new situation, ie making a large investment, will cause us to retreat back to our comfort levels. 

ie...not making an investment, not being in an environment which will push you.

The crazy thing is, life changing decisions often times feel scary and "not comfortable."

This in itself is a major lesson.

I will repeat it. 

Life changing decisions are scary and "not comfortable."

They will go against what your brain is wired to do.

However, this is where you can practice some accurate thinking.

First, know that your brain will naturally retreat to comfort first. 

Second, ask two questions.

1. What would be the chances of me achieving X with the investment? 

2. What would be my chances of doing X, without?

It is simple math, whatever the bigger percentage...that is your choice, even if it does not feel "safe."

Now you know what a good investment is and how it feels to make it.

It is simple as 1-2-3 and all you really have to look at are two factors.

1. Does this investment produce ACCELERATION. 

2. Understand your brain is wired for self-preservation, so it will want to retreat. So push past this.

WEEK 147: PRESSURE

I have failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed.       MJ


REFLECTIONS (learnings and actions): Do you enjoy comfort?

Is your main goal to get to a point where you have security? 

What about safety? Do you do everything in your power to ensure you feel safe all the time?

Let me tell you why this is keeping you STUCK...actually might be making you regress. 

Jess really?

Yes and the crazy thing is it does not matter if you are just starting out or have achieved a high level of success. 

This drive for safety, security, and comfort is what is keeping you STUCK.

Now before I dive into, I want to ask you if you know why Michael Jordan, or MJ, became one of the or "the" greatest NBA players of all time?

Well, his secret relates to how diamonds are formed?

Do you know the process?

In a nut shell coal undergoes huge amounts of pressure, until it becomes a diamond.

PRESSURE helps the coal get stronger and brings its best out. 

And PRESSURE, or how he viewed it, was the very thing which allowed MJ to break through all of his limits and allow him to achieve any goal he put his mind to.

Here is the thing.

You are grinding and driving so you can create security for your family, your future, your life. 

You want to get to a place of safety where you have no

-pain
-fear
-problems
-pressure

This thinking is WRONG.

If you do not have a little FEAR in your life than your goals are terrible and you are not living even close to your optimal potential. 

WHY?

Well wanting 100% safety and comfort allows you to LET GO go of the person you could be...the people you could impact...the amazing experiences you could create. 

Now I am not telling you need to go out and create experiences where you are constantly bombarded with pressure so you can sleep at night. 

However, you don't want to be in a place where you feel no pain, no worries, or any pressure at all. 

It is like creating a perfect shot of espresso, you need to be in the "optimal" pressure zone to create it.

Because too much will produce a shot of espresso that is too bitter. 

Too little, it will come out as brown water. 

But anyone can leverage pressure. It does no matter if you are 20 or 75. 

HOW?

Just change your perspective on pressure and know it is your barometer on the path to achieving your greatest goals. 

This will allow you leverage the very thing which helped MJ become one of the greatest to play the game.

Pressure helps us crystalize, draws out our best, and guides that we are on the right path. 

If you feel too much focus on the micro. Too less, the macro.

WEEK 146: PLAYING BIG

REFLECTIONS (learnings and actions): Are you "Playing Big" in life or not? 

Seriously? 

Are you taking the risks (actually not risks if you know what you are doing) to get what you want?

Or, are you making the investments, time and money, to grow into the person you want to be?

Or, putting yourself out there to make the impact that you are able to?

Well this week I want to write about the steps you can take to start "Playing Big" in life so you can go from good to great, or great to beyond.

Well, where do we start?

Let's dive into it. 

[1] Clarity

It always has to start here. What is it that you want? No joke, what do you really want?

If there is no clarity here, then nothing else will stick.

It is like turning on a GPS and asking it to work without telling it an end destination. What?

You need to clarify what it is you want before you start if you want to start "Playing Bigger" in life.

[2] Programming

Did you know you have cities of main frame computers at your disposal.

Are you using them in the right way?

Work is necessary to harness such power.

You will act with old thought patterns which actually sabotage yourself by not putting in the daily work.

It is like being caught in a groove of record. It will play over and over again if you do not actually move it.

You must understand the amazing servo-mechanism you have at your disposal, and you need to program it so you can play at a bigger level than you currently are. 

[3] MCVVCR

Make Choices that Validate Vision and Create Reality.

Again, clarity of a vision, who you want to be in the future is key.

Then make the choices which validate that vision. This snaps this future version of yourself into your reality.

How do you do that?

Choose growth over comfort. That means to consider the 2nd to 3rd level consequences, not the first (beginners live at the 1st stage level).

Truth, long term gains live past initial discomfort.

You will have to make decisions on who you want to be, not your present identity to "play bigger."

[4] Consistency

Nothing sexy about it. 

You have to win the majority of the time.

This builds momemtum and 51% becomes 60%, which becomes 70%....

However, you can not expect to get what you want by making the choices every once in a while.

It would be similar to going to gym once a week and expecting the body of your dreams.

You have to put in the necessary work (20% activities) daily to start playing bigger. 


There you have it.
